Stan Codd entertaned fellow members with a talk about his childhood and youth in the years just before and during the Second World War.

He spoke about seeing a Zeppelin travelling along the Grimsby coast populated with passengers spying out and recording coastal defences, being evacuated inland where one day he saw three Messerschmitt aircraft being shot down by Spitfires and how on his return to the family home in Grimsby he experienced screaminig bombs, needle shrapnel and incendiary devices at first-hand.

Stan became an apprentice electrician. when he left school at 14.
