High Peak residents have the chance to discover orienteering this summer with the launch of a six–month programme of activities.
High Peak Borough Council, in partnership with British Orienteering, High Peak School and Sports Partnership and Derbyshire Village Games, is delivering more than 60 community sessions and working with 14 primary schools to introduce people of all ages to the sport.
There are two types of food on offer, the first being Xplorer Challenges, which are an introduction to orienteering using basic maps.
The second is Run Challenges – aimed at people aged 14 and over involving navigation around a more challenging mapped area.
Council Leader Councillor Caitlin Bisknell said: “This excellent programme is one of the first of its kind in the country and builds on our commitment to promoting sport and physical activity. It will open up a world of new activity to people that they can enjoy either alone or with friends and family.”
