Emergency crew battle home blaze

FIREFIGHTERS were forced to climb up a home to extinguish an out of control chimney blaze.

The chimney fire was discovered at the semi-detached property, on Tree Avenue, Ripley, about 9.30pm, on Wednesday, June 29.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “Crews initially used pumps and rods but were unable to extinguish the problem so they needed to use a 10.5metre ladder and roof crawler.”

The Ripley firefighters extinguished the blaze and made the property safe within an hour.
