Eight weeks of traffic chaos loom in Chesterfield

The new lights at Piccadilly Road/Hady Hill/Spital lane will take around eight weeks to install and temporary ones will be in place to direct traffic. Delays are expected.

Temporary traffic management will include:

• Three-way temporary signals manually controlled 7am to 7pm weekdays and 8am to 6pm weekends

• Piccadilly Road will be closed to traffic travelling southbound on to Hady Hill (between Wain Avenue and Hady Hill, approximately 50 metres in length). A diversionary route will be in place via Crow Lane – Malkin Street – Corporation Street – A61 southbound inner relief road – Hornsbridge Island – A617 eastbound offslip road – Spital Lane – Hollis Lane

• Spital Lane westbound offslip road will be closed while the central refuge is rebuilt. Traffic will be controlled by the temporary signals. A temporary suspension of parking will be in place with the use of no parking cones for a distance of 75 metres approximately to ensure the safe passage of traffic, including bus services

• The A61 southbound offslip road on to the A632 Hollis Lane will remain closed for the duration of these works and the permanent signals will be switched off to ease congestion on this section of road

• The pedestrian crossing will be suspended and temporary crossing facilities will be in place supervised by a traffic management operative

• Emergency services vehicles will gain access at all times which will be monitored by the traffic management operatives
