A landmark stage of a
£5 million building project at a North Derbyshire school has been celebrated.

Coun Kevin Gillott, Derbyshire Councis cabinet member for children and young People, joined Simon Dorman, North Wingfield Primary School headteacher, and pupils to celebrate the topping out ceremony, where the last beam is placed on the structure.

The new building replaces the old school on Blacks Lane, which dated back to before 1919.

The new single-site school is where the former Deincourt School was located, on Chesterfield Road.

Coun Gillott said: “There used to be separate infant and junior schools and the buildings were in poor condition, which would have been too expensive to bring up to modern standards.”
