Year Five pupils at Calow Primary have been engaged in a learning programme that has given them an insight in to our judiciary system.
In conjunction with Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court, the children have participated in a project that has included talking with a senior magistrate and a representative of the Crown Prosecution Service. There was a question and answer session with each to find out more about their roles in court. The children learned about the type of cases dealt with by magistrates and ventured suggestions for how criminal cases may be dealt with.
The project culminated in a visit to the Magistrates’ Court one evening. During the visit the children carried out a mock trial in a court room. They were then given a tour of the building, which included the cells beneath court.
