Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, June 19, how Jason Fearon, 41, was seen by police on the A61 on Derby Road, Chesterfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “The driver had a mobile in his right hand while he was driving and he didn’t see the police vehicle. The officer pulled round to his right and the defendant was still talking on his phone.

“The defendant said he was sorry and that he had been using the phone hands free.”

Fearon, of Hunter’s Rise, Barnsley, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle while using a hand-held phone after the offence in January. He told the court the phone cradle had broken and he is a good driver.

Magistrates fined Fearon £133 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £35 costs.
