A BRAVE Chesterfield youngster who is battling cancer will enjoy the festive trip-of-a-lifetime today.

Courageous Emily Bell, 12, is jetting off to Lapland for a magical pre-Christmas adventure to marvel at reindeer, ride with Huskies and meet Santa.

Speaking before the one-day trip, little Emily – who is nearing the end of gruelling treatment after being diagnosed with leukaemia back in August 2009 – beamed: “I’m just so excited.

“I really can’t wait to see Father Christmas.”

Springwell Community College student Emily is going on the enchanting journey with When You Wish Upon a Star – a national charity dedicated to making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses – after she was nominated by her nurses at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Taxing chemotherapy and steroids have damaged young Emily’s bones, hip, thigh and possibly her spine.

Sometimes the pain gets so unbearable, she has no option but to use a wheelchair.

Her dedicated mum Andrea Bennett, of Markham Road, Duckmanton, who is joining Emily on the adventure, said: “When I got the phone call about it, I was so happy because this is such a great pick me up for my little girl – we’re really, really excited for it.

“I’m bursting with pride for Emily – she has been and continues to be so brave.

“I’m incredibly proud to be her mum,” added 40-year-old Andrea.

Emily – who has won a Derbyshire County Council Young Achievers’ Award for bravery – dreams of swimming with dolphins in Disneyland Florida when she has finished her treatment.

Local residents have been rallying to raise pots of cash for the £20,000 dream holiday
