The car ‘ploughed straight into’ The Den’s entrance on Tuesday afternoon, leaving its occupant ‘trapped for a short time’.

Nursing and medical staff, as well as a team of Derbyshire firefighters, were on the scene quickly and the driver was taken to A&E with ‘minor’ injuries.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

The Den - which is home to children’s outpatient services - was evacuated for a short time as a precaution.

On the hospital’s Facebook page, a statement read: “Investigators will determine what happened to cause the incident but rest assured it wasn’t an intentional act.

“We’re just glad that no one was badly injured - buildings are much easier to fix than people! Great team effort as always.”
