CHATSWORTH House has confirmed the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire is “fine” despite having to cancel public appearances for the time being.
The 91-year-old Dowager, Deborah Cavendish, who is the last of the famous Mitford sisters, pulled out of the literary Charleston Festival in East Sussex, between May 20 and 29, where she was due to talk about her memoirs Wait for Me.
A Chatsworth House spokesman said: “The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire is fine but she has had a rather busy schedule lately. She needs to rest so has cancelled all public appearances for the time being.”
The Dowager, known as Debo, was the face of Chatsworth until the death of husband and former Duke Andrew Cavendish in 2004 when their son Peregrine became the 12th Duke of Devonshire.
