A family’s beloved pet has been savagely attacked by another dog in Chesterfield town centre.

Siberian Husky Misty was set upon by another dog near New Square, close to the Portland Hotel, at about 2pm on Wednesday, November 8.

The dog grabbed her by the throat, cut through her fur and left her with a two-inch long cut in her neck which required eight stitches.

Georgina Page, 49, whose son Chris Lomas, 25, was walking Misty when it happened, said: “Chris was too upset to talk after the incident.

“Somebody had to come out of one of the offices nearby to try to get the dogs apart.

“They ended up hitting the dog that was attacking Misty to get it off.”

Chris’ other dog, Golden Retriever Mollie, was so scared by the attack she ran off and hid in the car park behind the Sun Inn.

Georgina says it was only when she saw the severity of Misty’s injuries that she decided to call police.

PC Matthew Rodda confirmed police had received reports of an alleged dog-on-dog attack in Chesterfield’s New Square on Wednesday, November 8.

He said the dog responsible for the alleged attack was thought to be a Staffy-cross of some description.

He added that the dog responsible had been on a lead at the time of the incident.

Anyone who saw what happened or can help in any way is asked to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.

Misty’s owners say she hasn’t been out of the house to meet other dogs since her ordeal, but are hopeful she will make a full recovery.
