'DISGUSTING': Eckington air cadets' base ransacked by despicable burglars

An air cadets' base was ransacked by heartless burglars who stole equipment and cash.

Offenders broke into the 2000 Eckington Squadron centre on Peveril Road, making off with money and new laptops.

Police are investigating the crime and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Flight Lieutenant Julie Gill, squadron commander, said she went into the base on Monday of last week and discovered it had been burgled.

"The general office looked like a bomb had hit it," she said.

"The money has gone.

"Four brand new laptops have gone.

"We're really angry at what's happened.

"It's disgusting and very upsetting.

"We work hard to provide a valuable service for many young people in the area.

"All our funds come through fundraising and the children work hard to get the things they want and need here.

"For this to happen is just wrong."

She added: "I hope whoever did this is caught very soon and brought to justice."

It is understood the offenders broke into the base - which is a Ministry of Defence building - through a back window.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Entry appears to have been forced sometime between 9.45pm on Wednesday, April 4, and 6.20pm on Monday, April 9.
