Diamond Jubilee cash boost for New Mills park

Thousands of pounds are to be spent on improving play facilities at a New Mills park.

The £15,416 funding boost from SITA Trust’s QE2 Fields Fund will help pay for four new items of play equipment at High Lea Park.

SITA Trust set-up the funding programme for sites that have been guaranteed legal protection for at least 99 years having been granted Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field status from Fields in Trust.

New Mills Town Council signed up to the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, to ensure the park is available for future generations to enjoy.

Town council chair Cllr Gwyneth Bowers said: “We are thrilled that SITA Trust have recognised the need for improved play facilities in New Mills and granted us the funds to buy play equipment for High Lea Park.

“The money will enable the council to continue to improve the facilities that have already proved so popular. High Lea is rapidly becoming the destination of families from all around the local area.”

SITA Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund, which since 1997 has provided £1.2 billion to worthy projects.
