Designers standout from the flock

Deaf children have given animated character Shaun the Sheep a
ewe-nique makeover in a nationwide challenge.

The imaginative designs from pupils at Langley Mill Junior School saw Shaun dressed as a ballerina and a superhero, with some giving him hearing aids, cochlear implants and BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aids).

‘Shaun’s Cracking Ideas Design Challenge’ is a programme for children which teaches them about protecting designs, trademarks and inventions.

The programme includes a competition to design a “cracking contraption” to transport Shaun and his friends back to the farm, after they get stranded in the big city. The winner’s design will be brought to life around a 5ftfoot-high Shaun the Sheep sculpture for their school to keep.

Seventy giant sculptures of Shaun the Sheep, each designed by a different artist or celebrity, are on show in Bristol. They include ‘Dolly’, by Nottingham-based mosaic artist Julie Vernon.

The Bristol trail follows the success of the ‘Shaun in the City’ trail in London earlier this year, which featured 50 different designs.
