Derbyshire woman killed in road smash named

A Derbyshire woman who died in a car accident on the A50 in Staffordshire on Monday has been named by police.

Rachel Edwards, aged 35, of Melbourne Avenue, Dronfield, Derbyshire was a passenger in a Volvo car travelling on the A50 eastbound at around 9am on Monday when it was in collision with a Volvo HGV near to Blythe Bridge.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rachel’s family is being supported by specially trained officers and an investigation into the circumstances around the collision by colleagues from the Collision Investigation Unit in ongoing.

The car’s driver, a 42-year-old man who is also from Derbyshire, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.

The rear seat passenger, an eight-year-old boy, was uninjured.

The occupant of the lorry, a 52-year-old man, was also uninjured.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 123 of April 4.
