Derbyshire weather update: Bright start with snow warning

The Met Office has forecast a bright start to today, Saturday, February 21, for Derbyshire but frost and snow is reported to be on its way.

Following a frosty start, most places will be dry with bright or sunny spells, however there will be a few showers, with some sleet or snow on the Derbyshire hills. It will feel cold in a northwesterly breeze.

The Snake Pass between Ladybower Dam and Glossop has been reported as hazardous along with the nearby Woodhead Pass because of snow.

By tonight showers will ease through the evening. Variable cloud will give some clear spells with a frost developing in places and perhaps some isolated mist or fog patches possible.

Temperatures could reach as high as six degrees centigrade and as low as one degree centigrade today.

A Yellow warning of snow has also been issued by the Met Office for Monday, February 23.

There is expected to be frequent hail, sleet and snow showers are expected on Monday.

Across northern England accumulations to low levels are likely to be transient, whilst on hills 6-10cm of snow is possible. Winds will be strong at times, with gusts to over 50mph on coasts and hills.

The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and for hazardous driving conditions at times.
