Wirksworth residents have turned out in force to protest against US president Donald Trump's visit to the UK this week.

Organisers Phil Richards and Dr Andy Miller put out a call for local people who shared their views to meet in the town to be photographed behind a banner reading TRUMP NOT WELCOME HERE EITHER #WIRKSWORTH #DERBYSHIRE

Others who wished to be included but were away from the town when the photo was taken sent in their own to be incorporated as a collage.

Mr Trump will be in Britain between Thursday and Sunday.

Mr Richards said: "On so many issues - such as walking away from internationally-agreed climate change policies, encouraging violence against protesters on the campaign trail and the caging of very young immigrant children away from their parents - the Trump administration has behaved in a reckless and dangerous fashion."

Dr Miller added: "Obviously a photo from Wirksworth isn't going to encourage president Trump to change direction.

"But combined with the whole range of other national, local and individual protests that are scheduled to take place, they can add to a huge groundswell of public opinion.

"Hopefully we can provide some support and encouragement to those, especially in the US, who are already on the frontline against this cruel, vindictive and dangerous character."
