George Cowcher, Chief Executive of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The region always gets a good showing at the BCC’s Awards because there are a lot of companies in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire which are highly innovative, optimistic and, this year, are helping to drive the economy out of recession.

“It doesn’t matter where the recognition comes from so long as it comes and these four companies deserve to have their achievements noted in this way, as does Dr Hirst.”

Chameleon School of Construction has won the East Midland’s Most Promising New Business Award, Greenbank Group UK has won the East Midland’s Exporter of the Year Award, Hall Fast Industrial Supplies has won the East Midland’s Online Business of the Year Award and Sygnature Discovery has won the East Midland’s Excellence in Innovation Award.

Each of the regional awards winners will be entered in the national BCC awards final, the winners of which will be announced at a gala dinner at The Brewery, London, in November.

The British Chambers of Commerce Awards, now in their 10th year, are one of the showpiece events in the business calendar, highlighting the role of business as a positive force for the UK recovery, and for local communities.

Nora Senior, President of the British Chambers of Commerce said: “I visit businesses up and down the country and am constantly impressed by their determination, innovation and the contributions they are making to their local communities.

“Many of them are optimistic and looking for opportunities to grow and find new markets for their products and services both at home and abroad.

“These are the kinds of businesses that will become the wealth creators of tomorrow and will play a crucial role in helping the UK economy move from being good to being great in the months and years ahead.

“The Chamber Awards are the perfect platform to showcase the amazing work of UK firms across the country and show the world why business is good for Britain.”
