Derbyshire rapist jailed for five years

A man who raped and assaulted a woman has been jailed for five years.

Jeffrey Dunbar (36), of Church Street, Ilkeston, was convicted of the charges at Derby Crown Court on Thursday (March 10).

Dunbar had denied raping a 33-year-old woman in January last year.

Police who investigated Dunbar’s crimes paid tribute to the woman for helping to bring him to justice.

Det Con Teresa Daniels said: “It’s thanks to the bravery of the victim in this case that Dunbar is now in prison.

“Anyone who is raped should have the confidence to come forward to the police or a support agency that will be able to help them.”

Dunbar has also been put on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for life.
