Police are still waiting for the results of a veterinary post-mortem after a dog was allegedly killed by two men.

The suspects – a 20–year–old of no fixed address and a 21–year–old of Bolsover – were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage last Monday after officers discovered the body of a dog at a property in Shuttlewood, Bolsover, following numerous complaints from members of the public.

The case has been escalated to an arson investigation with the potential of endangering life as it is believed that after killing the dog, the men may have set a fire in the property while other people were still inside.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said this morning: “We’re still waiting for the results of a veterinary post-mortem into the death of the animal. It appears the dog was treated cruelly.”

The two men have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information about the dog’s death or treatment is asked to call 101 quoting incident 15 of November 10.
