DERBYSHIRE: Firefighters set to go on strike in November

The Government plans to make firefighters work up to 60 and argues that the pension on offer is generous.

But Fire Brigades’ Union general secretary Matt Wrack says the late 50s are too old to be fighting fires and rescuing families.

A planned five-hour strike was called off earlier this month after progress was made during talks.

FBU members will walk out on November 1 from 6.30pm to 11pm and on 4 November between 6am and 8am.

Mr Wrack said: “The Westminster Government has created this mess, but it is refusing to clear it up.

“It now recognises the problem but it won’t provide the legal and financial guarantees firefighters need to ensure they have a job and an unreduced pension in the future.”

During the first strike on September 25, 32,000 union members walked out for four hours, according to the FBU.
