DERBYSHIRE DALES: Female focus for cycling initiative

Beautiful Carsington Reservoir is the backdrop for the launch of a new Derbyshire Dales cycling initiative that focuses on women.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) sees the first in a series of women-only bike rides on safe trails led by a trained leader.

Suitable for beginners, the initiative, organised by Derbyshire Dales District Council with partners British Cycling and Carsington Sports & Leisure, will be developed to include other cycle trails throughout the Dales.

The regular Tuesday led rides at Carsington Water will operate from 10am to 11am and the first is for women only – although small children are welcome – meeting at the cycle hire centre for free parking.

It costs £1.50 to attend with your own bike or £6 to hire an adult bike. Trailers and child seats are also available to hire and booking is essential on 01629 540478 or email [email protected].

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Communities Committee, Cllr Jennifer Bower said: “This is an exciting initiative. One of the District Council’s priorities is to promote safe and healthy communities and these rides will definitely get more people active and out into the open air.

“There is a social side too of course and we look forward to those taking part boosting their fitness levels and general health and wellbeing.”
