SAFETY MESSAGE -- lock up before you go to bed,, says Sgt Andy Wordsworth.

And their message is to lock up before you leave home and when you go to bed. This follows a spate of homes and vehicles being broken into in Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock, with valuables including jewellery, quad bikes and cash stolen.

Police are now carrying out increased patrols in hotspot areas to deter the offenders and to educate the victims. Sgt Andy Wordsworth said: “Thieves are opportunists, so we are encouraging home-owners to take a few moments to ensure properties are properly secure, with doors and windows locked.

“This message also relates to sheds, garages and outbuildings. Please keep valuables out of view, and ensure items are security-marked where possible.”
