Derbyshire Constabulary rated ‘good’ in report

The report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) examines the efficiency of the force and focusses on three areas which have all received a ‘good’ rating.

HMIC found that the force had a good understanding of the demands on its services, a good policing structure with locally-recognised neighbourhood policing teams and has made all the savings needed up to 2014/15.

Chief Constable Nick Creedon said: “I’m delighted that the HMIC recognises that we’re a good force. We’re used to being efficient as we have always been under-funded compared to almost all other police forces.

“The austerity measures that we face are difficult and we have so far lost hundreds of police officers and police staff members with the potential for an even greater reduction in numbers.

“Having said that, I’m pleased that the ongoing Home Office funding review recognises Derbyshire’s position and plans to increase the amount of central grant provided to the force. I hope that ministers stand by the review and implement the changes as soon as possible.

“I’d like to thank our very many partners within the city and county who help us make Derby and Derbyshire such a great place. Through integrated working and linking into local communities we manage to keep residents and visitors safe.”

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Charles added: “Under extremely difficult circumstances, brought about by the persistent funding cuts imposed by the Government, Derbyshire Constabulary has done extremely well in using its dwindling resources to deliver the very best value for money possible for the people of Derbyshire.”
