Dedicated Geoff helped poppy appeal take off

Kind-hearted aero modeller Geoff Mellin went above and beyond to help boost this year's poppy appeal.

Geoff approached local Royal British Legion volunteers selling poppies in-store, and asked if his models would help the appeal.

He offered to display his treasured model flying aircraft to raise awareness of the appeal at Tesco Extra on Lockoford Lane.

Shoppers were invited to have their pictures taken with his iconic aircraft on November 5. And on November 12, Geoff again showcased his Hurricane with six-foot wingspan, Spitfire and Mosquito fighters to the public.

Royal British Legion volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints along with members of the Rotary Club are among the largest supporters of the poppy appeal nationally.

Bishop David Lawrance, leader of the Chesterfield congregation, said he was extremely grateful to Geoff for his dedicaton, and also to Tesco for its ongoing support.

He addedL “I am also thankful the work of the Royal British Legion does to support those who fought and sacrificed their lives so we have the freedom to worship in this country freely as we choose.”
