Day care services for older people are on the move to new accommodation following a decision by Derbyshire County Council.
The county council decided last week that its day services currently based at Clay Cross Hall, in Ox Close, Market Street, will transfer to the new Smithybrook View housing development, currently being built in the town a quarter of a mile away.
The decision to move the service follows a six-week consultation held last summer with people using the day services, their families and carers and staff.
Councillor Paul Jones, the council’s deputy cabinet member for adult social care, said: “We know people using the day service at Clay Cross Hall highly value the care and support they get from our staff but the building itself is not equipped to provide the privacy and safety required to maintain people’s dignity and independence.
“We believe the move to Smithybrook View will benefit everyone using the service and people who will use it in the future as they will receive the best care and support, but now it will be in the best possible surroundings too.”
Smithybrook View is due to open this summer.
