Daughter stole from her mum

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, June 14, how Denille Warriner, 23, of Oaklands Street, Alfreton, stole and used a bank card to buy an iPhone and other items and stole cash from a purse and committed fraud by using a bank card to buy goods.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “The complainant, Karen Warriner, is the defendant’s mother and has Power of Attorney over her mother’s financial matters and has a bank card for her to access that account. Karen Warriner realised there had been a number of transactions in December including cash withdrawals for an iPhone and other items worth £1,210.”

Mrs Allsop also added that another bank card for shopping had been in her purse which went missing with £55 and she confronted her daughter over both matters. Denille Warriner told police she was ill and could not work and had used the money to buy treats. She pleaded guilty to stealing a bank card and property worth £1,210 belonging to Karen Warriner and to stealing cash in January valued at £55.

She also admitted fraud by using a bank card in Karen Warriner’s name in January.

Denille Warriner told the court: “I have broken the trust of my family and things probably won’t be the same again and I wish I hadn’t done it. I’ve told them I’m sorry.”

Magistrates sentenced Denille Warriner to a community order with a three-month curfew. She must pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
