Blood in the Air: The Chronicles of Kari True is the first novel by budding writer Katherine ‘Katie’ Wood, of Darley Dale.

The 27–year–old hopes this first book will lead to several more about her main character, Kari True a part demon officer of the watch who is in charge of keeping the main streets around the palace in the city free from crime.

She said: “I have loved reading and writing stories from an early age and my influences include J K Rowling, George RR Martin and Terry Pratchett among others.

“Fantasy and crime are my two favourite genres and writing a crime novel set in a fantasy world was one of the most fun things I have done.”

She said she’s been into fantasy novels ever since she picked up a copy of Harry Potter at the age of 12.

Katie has dabbled in writing on and off over the years, but this was her first attempt at a full novel.

She started working on Blood in the Air three years ago, and said the characters have been living in her head for all that time.

Katie added: “I am elated that the world will meet them now too.

“It feels amazing when you get the box of books and see your work in print.”

She dedicated the novel to her mum and dad, as well as friends Emily Peach and Laura Flower, and thanked them for believing in both her and the book in the front of the publication.

Katie did a lot of research into the publishing industry on her mission to become an author.

“It’s so difficult because a lot of publishers won’t even talk to you unless you get an agent first, so I was lucky,” she said.

The book has been published by The Kings England Press.

It is currently available in paperback for a cost of £8.99.
