Dales school staff learn new ways of getting kids active

Midday supervisors from schools across the Dales have been taking part in training and exercise sessions in a bit to encourage youngsters to get active and eat well.

Support staff from schools in Matlock, Kirk Ireton, Carsington, Middleton and Hopton met at Arc Leisure, in Matlock, to discuss how their role can help schools demonstrate they are providing opportunities for children to enjoy sports and physical activity, and receive health messages.

The event was hosted by the Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership (RDSSP) and run by RDSSP manager Janice Price alongside management assistant Eliot Martin–French and sports apprentices James Bates and Sam May. Participants were encouraged to share ideas and Janice talked about ways to forge links between playground games and academic achievement.
