Two men jailed after attacking a man in Buxton and threatening him with a gun

Two men have been sentenced for their part in a brutal attack where a man was beaten and threatened with a gun.

Gareth Fox has been jailed for five years and seven months for causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Edward Gaunt was sentenced to 16 months for inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Shortly after midnight on October 4 last year, a 39-year-old man was at his home in Fairfield Road, Buxton, when he heard a knock at the door and someone calling out to him.

He recognised the voice as that of Fox and answered the door.

Fox and Gaunt entered the house.

The victim then had an imitation firearm pointed at him and a kettle of hot water poured over his legs. He was repeatedly punched, hit with a piece of wood and slashed across the back. He suffered serious injuries.

Fox and Gaunt then left.

Following the atttack the court heard that officers were called to to reports that a man had been seriously assaulted and threatened with a firearm.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene and the two men were arrested in connection with the incident - a replica Berretta gas powered hand gun was also seized by police.

Fox, 41, of Macclesfield Road, Buxton and Gaunt, 27, of Fairfield Road, Buxton both pleaded guilty. They were sentenced on Tuesday, April 14.
