Suspected drink driver found sitting on huge machete after police pulled them over in Derbyshire

A suspected drink-driver was found sitting on a “massive” machete after their vehicle was stopped by police in Derbyshire.

Officers found the van at junction 28 of the M1 near Alfreton, after they received reports of criminal damage and a domestic incident.

The driver registered a score of 107 when breathalysed – with the legal limit being 35.

When he left the vehicle, police found he was sitting on the huge weapon and arrested him.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said in a tweet: "Alfreton to M1 J28.

"Criminal damage and domestic incident reported, suspect drives off in this van.

"Located at J28 and stopped shortly after. Driver blows 107, limit 35. And he is sat on this massive machete, needless to say - arrested."

Pete Waby, who responded to the tweet, commented: “Crazy.
