On January 15, Donna Cole went into Boots on Spring Gardens where she was seen to take a box of plasters from the shelf and drop some of the contents in to her handbag before leaving, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard.

Then on January 23, she took two pairs of knickers and a bra from the Next store in Spring Gardens, prosecutor Jennifer Fitzgerald said.

Cole, 35, of Victoria Park Road, Fairfield, admitted two counts of theft.

James Riley, defending, said Cole, who suffers from psychotic episodes, had recently moved to Buxton from Manchester but there had been a gap in her receiving treatment.

“These offences took place quite quickly after her move when she was unsettled,” he said.

“She is not in a position where she needs to be going out shoplifting, it is more borne out of psychotic episodes.”

She was given a six-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a 12-month supervision order.

She must also pay compensation to Boots and Next, £85 costs and an £80 surcharge.
