A thief who stole nearly £70 of goods from a Morrisons supermarket has been given an eight-week custodial sentence suspended for 12 months.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard last Wednesday how Stacey Smith, 30, of Welbeck Court, on Porter Street, Staveley, was spotted stealing by security staff at the store.
Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said: “Security staff watched her taking £66.91 worth of items from a display and putting them in her pockets and in a carrier bag and she was stopped.”
Smith pleaded guilty to the theft, committed on January 10, and to breaching a community order relating to previous thefts.
Defence solicitor Denny Lau explained Smith has had personal problems and has lived in a hostel and on the streets and the stolen items were for personal use.
Smith was also ordered to pay £165 in costs and a victim surcharge.
