Police Taser drink driver on M1 in Derbyshire who 'tried to push officers towards moving traffic'

A drink driver fell asleep at the wheel on the M1 in Derbyshire before trying to push officers towards moving traffic, police have said.

The ‘wasted’ van driver had stopped in lane two of the motorway at junction 28 and fallen asleep, Derbyshire Police said today.

When police approached, the driver tried to push officers towards moving traffic, the force revealed, and ended up being Tasered and arrested.

In a tweet, Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said the driver had been well above the alcohol limit – testing 59µg on a breathalyser when the limit is just 35.

The force wrote: “M1 J28. The driver of this van stopped and fell asleep at the wheel whilst in lane 2 of the motorway (van moved prior to photos). Wasted driver pushes us away towards the live motorway lane, we won't accept that - Tasered and arrested. Blew 59µg, limit 35. #DontDrinkDrive #Fatal4.”
