POLICE caught a drug offender after they smelled cannabis coming from his vehicle in Ambergate.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, April 15, how Matthew Hare, 22, was caught with three amounts of cannabis valued at £75.
Becky Mahon, prosecuting, said: “The police followed Hare’s vehicle after smelling cannabis and recovered three amounts of cannabis with a combined street value of £75. He said it was for his personal use.”
The court heard how Hare has a conviction for possessing cannabis and he had previously been dealt with for a similar matter in 2008.
Hare, of Buxton Avenue, Heanor, pleaded guilty to possessing 8.9grammes of the class B drug after the incident in March.
He said: “I have used it along time and it helps me with asthma. I knew I was in the wrong.”
Magistrates fined Hare £300 and he must pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
