Police probe incident on Chesterfield Canal as boy suffers head injury

Police are investigating an incident on a stretch of canal in Chesterfield which left a teenage boy with a head injury.

The incident occurred on an area of the canal in New Whittington, known as Pebble Beach, between 3pm and 3.45pm on Tuesday, July 20.

The victim, a young boy in his early teens, was hit with a stone to the back of his head knocking him unconscious.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Another boy, also in his early teens, has been voluntarily interviewed in relation to the incident.

“The victim told officers that when he came to a man was stood over him asking him if he was OK – he is described as black and was walking a dog.

“Officers want to speak to this man as a witness to the incident.”

They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area.
