Police are urging cat owners to be vigilant after a cat was shot with what is thought to be a pellet gun in Eckington.

The animal was found to be suffering and in pain after returning home to a property on Laurel Close in Eckington.

Upon examination by a vet, three pellets were found inside the animal, with one fracturing the cat’s spine.

The incident is thought to have happened sometime between 4pm on Friday, November 4 and 1pm the following day.

Officers are urging local cat owners to be vigilant and to monitor their pets’ behaviour in case they seem distressed or in pain.
