Group Manager Adam Bleakman, of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Earlier this morning Firefighters rescued an elderly gentleman from a fire in a bungalow on Rossendale in Ilkeston.

"Tragically, despite the efforts of Firefighters and East Midlands Ambulance Service we have been informed that the gentleman sadly passed away later this morning.

A fire investigation into the cause of the fire has determined that the most likely cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical appliance.

Over the coming days a team of Firefighters and Community Safety Officers will be in the local area talking to residents as well as providing reassurance and fire safety advice.

Officers from Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue will now be preparing reports for the coroner.
