FIRE crews across the county have been tied up fighting a spate of grass fires.
Crews from Chesterfield were called to a small fire in the open on Malson Way, Chesterfield at around 9pm last night (Thursday 25). They used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
At 8pm the same evening, Staveley crews were called to the Transpennine trail, where they found a small fire on a disused railway line.
And in Hathersage, fire services attended a call to Hathersage Road, Grindleford, where a bonfire had got out of control. They found around 50 square metres of field well alight and used two hose reel jets to extinguish it.
Speaking to the Derbyshire Times last week, Chesterfield station manager, Glyn Richardson, said: ““Every time that we are called out to these incidents, it is taking emergency vehicles out of the stations, that could be taken up with more serious fires.”
