Members of Chesterfield family in court for 'unpleasant incident' outside supermarket

A brawl took place at the Co-op, on Spital Lane, Chesterfield, on February 13, 2019, and five people were sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Thursday.

Mark Boyce, Ashley Bond and Matthew Clayton, who all live at Smith Crescent in Spital, along with Brendan Bond, of Spital Lane, Chesterfield, were told by Judge Jonathan Bennett their behaviour had been unacceptable after they had previously admitted affray.

Samantha Boyce, of Smith Crescent, who the court was told had called her sons to take part in the fight, admitted threatening behaviour.

"This was a very unpleasant incident and it is very difficult to differentiate between you,” the judge said.

The court was told that Mark Boyce, 56, was only involved for a short period but had been armed with a weapon.

The judge said he should ‘have known better’.

Mark Boyce, 56, of Smith Crescent, Spital, was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with an 8pm-6am curfew.

Samantha Boyce, 51, of Smith Crescent, Spital, was given a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement and an 8pm-6am curfew.

Ashley Bond, 24, of Smith Crescent, Spital, was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.

Brendan Bond, 24, of Spital Lane, was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and 200 hours of unpaid work.

Matthew Clayton, 33, of Smith Crescent, Spital, who the judge said had a ‘considerable record’, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with a curfew between 8pm-6am.
