A man who stole gin from a Ripley shop has been jailed, after being arrested by police thanks to a Shopwatch radio alert.
Daniel Small, 43, formerly of Chesterfield Road, Alfreton, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of gin from The Cooperative store.
Officers from the Ripley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team were alerted to the incident on Wednesday, March 1 by a report through the Shopwatch radio system.
Small was stopped on Moseley Street in Ripley a short while after and was arrested. He became abusive towards officers after being arrested, and spat at one of them.
He was further arrested for assaulting a police officer, and was later charged with both offences.
Magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre sentenced Small to four weeks in prison for the theft, and nine weeks jail for assaulting a police constable at the hearing on Thursday, March 2. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
