Man jailed after stealing bikes, gloves and perfume in Chesterfield

A 41-year-old man has been jailed for a series of thefts in the Chesterfield area.

Alan Poxton, of Birchwood Crescent, Grangewood, was arrested by officers on the Chesterfield Crime Team on Thursday, May 14, as part of an operation to target acquisitive crime in the area.

He was identified following an investigation into the theft of two bikes which were stolen from a garden on Herriot Drive at around 4.45am on Monday, May 11.

Officers also received reports from residents on Monday, May 11, about a man trying car doors on Herriot Drive and Oadby Drive, while perfume and gloves were taken from a car on Swalebank Close.

During their inquiries they discovered the same man was responsible for using a stolen bank card in Walton, the town centre, on Derby Road, Horse Chestnut Close and on Baden Powell Road on Tuesday, May 5.

The 41-year-old was charged with a total of 14 offences, including theft by finding, theft from a vehicle, theft of a pedal cycle and fraud by false representation.

Mr Poxton pleaded guilty at the hearing at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Friday, May 15. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Inspector Daron Abbott, who is in charge of policing in the Chesterfield area, said: “This is good result which has seen Mr Poxon brought to justice for a number of thefts in the Chesterfield area in May.

“Despite the current, challenging climate faced at this time, we remain committed to targeting crime and keeping our communities safe.”
