Man charged with theft after allegedly stealing from elderly ladies in Chesterfield car parks

A man has been charged with theft after he has allegedly stolen cash from elderly ladies in car parks in Chesterfield.

It is in connection with four incidents in town centre car parks, which have taken place between Wednesday, November 2 and Monday, December 12.

A CCTV appeal for information was put out by police after a 78-year-old woman reported having cash stolen from her purse by a man who had allegedly approached her and asked for change at a car park off Rose Hill East on Wednesday, November 2.

On Monday, November 14, a 75-year-old woman allegedly had cash taken from her purse by a man with a similar description, who approached her and asked for change on Soresby Street.

Other incidents have been reported in the town hall car park and at St. Mary’s Church.

The man was arrested by officers from the Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team on Monday, December 12.

Costel Bludai, 40, who lives in the Nottinghamshire area, was questioned and later charged with the offences.

He is due to appear before magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Tuesday, January 3.
