A man has been charged with religiously aggravated criminal damage at a Darley Dale church.

The graffiti was written on St Helen's Church, Church Road, on Monday afternoon.

A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and was further arrested on suspicion of being in possession of cannabis.

Glen Cope, 58, who also goes by the name of Ebenezer Good, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with religiously aggravated criminal damage and being in possession of a Class B drug.

He appeared at Chesterfield Justice Centre earlier today (Wednesday, November 30).
