Lorry smashes into broken down van on M1 near Chesterfield

Dramatic pictures have emerged after a lorry crashed into the back of a broken down van on the motorway near Chesterfield.

It happened on the M1 between J29A Chesterfield and J30 Barlborough last night (Saturday, June 13)

Derbyshire Roads Police said that the Highways Maintenance van had broken down in lane one before the driver put the hazard lights on before leaving the vehicle.

The unit, who attended the incident, tweeted: “Lorry crashes into the back of it. Dashcam already reviewed - the van was visible on an empty straight road for 45 seconds prior to the collision.”

There were no injuries but the unit said a ‘prosecution would follow’.
