Jia murderer gets life sentence

THE murderer of Jia Ashton will serve a minimum of 27 years and 213 days in jail before being considered for release.

Last week, David Simmonds, 21, of Heanor admitted the murder of 25-year-old Jia, whose body was discovered in Sleetmoor Woods, near Somercotes on March 13, three days after she was last seen leaving her job as a business analyst at Thorntons.

He was sentenced today (October 7) at Nottingham Crown Court.
