If you can't beat them, join them - Derbyshire Police take to dirt bikes to tackle growing problem

Police descended on North East of Derbyshire and the surrounding area in a bid to target stolen motorbikes and quad bikes.

Officers from Derbyshire Rural Crime Team hopped on dirt and quad bikes in an operation to recover stolen vehicles on Sunday, January 19.

They also hoped to identify individuals committing any offences, such as illegal riding, in the area.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We were joined by our colleagues from neighbouring Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire and also our good friends from the Lincolnshire Rural Crime Team.

“The entire area of the three counties surrounding Worksop was the target area and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

“We are also increasing our technical armoury and are improving our chances of gathering visual evidence of offenders. Quite a number of surprised riders will have received notices of intended prosecution in recent weeks.”
