Former Barnsley FC assistant head coach Tommy Wright is spared jail after bribery offences

The former assistant head coach of Barnsley Football Club has avoided prison after he and two football agents were convicted of bribery offences.

Wright, 54, a former Doncaster Rovers player and ex Chesterfield FC assistant manager, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for 12 months after he was found guilty of two charges of receiving or accepting a bribe in contravention of the Bribery Act 2000.

Football agent Dax Price, 48, of Sittingbourne, Kent, was handed an 18-month sentence suspended for 18 months after being convicted of two charges of offering or promising a bribe.

Giuseppe "Pino" Pagliara, 64, of Bury, Greater Manchester, another agent originally from Italy, was given a two-year sentence suspended for two years after being found guilty of two charges of offering or promising a bribe.

The trio, who were brought to trial after an investigation by the Daily Telegraph into corruption in football, were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court.
