Police also searched six premises and produced two prisoners from prison during the operation yesterday (September 22).

County lines refers to the transportation of illegal drugs across rural and suburban counties, with gangs often recruiting and exploiting young people as runners to expand their criminal networks into new areas.

Those groomed by the gangs and who become embroiled in criminality are often used to divert attention away from those at the top of the chains.

Posting on Twitter last night, North Derbyshire Serious Organised Crime Unit said: “16 hours in, prisoners are still in custody, CPS being consulted, charges and remands pending.”
