Derbyshire police issue warning to drivers after fatal crashes claim lives of two men

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit have warned drivers across the region to drive carefully after they’ve witnessed an increase in road collisions, which recently claimed the lives of two men.

The force have urged motorists to take care while travelling, after a 72-year-old man passed away in North Derbyshire on Tuesday, July 13.

He had suffered a medical episode while at the wheel according to police and then crashed into a ditch on Hague Lane in Renishaw.

Officers and paramedics were called to the scene at 10.40am but the driver was sadly pronounced dead.

The fatal collision was the second in Derbyshire this week, after a driver in his 20s from Sheffield was also killed when his vehicle crashed off the Dronfield bypass northbound on the A61 on Monday night.

Police were alerted at 9.30pm on July 12 after a motorist witnessed a car come off the road and a Volkswagen Golf was later found covered by trees and bushes.

The man’s body was found inside the car and he had also passed away.

In a tweet posted this afternoon (Wednesday, July 14), Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit confirmed that they had witnessed an increase in road casualties with a ‘busy’ few days, attending fatal collisions.

The force also said the most recent crash in Swadlincote had left someone ‘seriously’ injured, writing: “A busy couple of days for our team and Collision Investigation. Unfortunately we've seen an increase in road casualities. Two dead and one seriously injured following three collisions - one in Renishaw, another at Dronfield and the last in Swadlincote.
